What a person as an individual or with family and friends choice of food and drink is up to you and them. If you are sick, especially if you have diabetes you will need support. We all need to figure out the best way to be healthy.
A good health care professional should understand you. You and your health care provider should respect each other. Your health care provider should help you from the inside out if you are ill. Honesty of what is most important to you is crucial to good health and mind. Be honest with yourself and with everyone who cares about you. If you don’t have Diabetes GREAT. Diabetes has become an epidemic and is rearing its ugly head across the world. Diabetes will affect your entire body from eyes to feet, inside and out.
There is a whole list of different specialist who may be on your health care team. It all starts with the PCP – Primary Care Physician who may refer you to specific specialists for you Diabetic health care.
Endocrinologist for hormonal health and diabetes management, especially if you need Insulin.
Nephrologist for kidney health.
DSMES Diabetes Self-managment Education and Support. – Education specialist to help you with self-management.
RD Registered Dietitian – To help you build healthy eating pattens to manage your goals.
Optometrist -Eye health specialist to oversee your eye health.
Podiatrist – A foot specialist.
Pharmacist – Fills your prescriptions and should advise you of possible drug interactions. A good pharmacist will talk to you about OTC’s Over The Counter drugs.
Mental Health Professional if needed.
Exercise Specialist – Physical or occupational therapist. A personal trainer or occupational therapist can help you towards your goals of good health.
Dentist – High blood sugar/glucose increases the risk of gum disease. Keeping a good clean healthy mouth is important.
You will not need all of these specialist all the time. Your PCP primary care doctor will advise you and let you know when you need a specialist.
You and your loved ones should become experts on your own health along with the help of Doctors, their nurses and office staff.
